Notices regarding CCG member companies' Census Reports

The utilization of the CCG member companies' Census Reports as a tool for assessing the population and value of collectibles in any character or grade is unreliable. The following characteristics inherent in the marketplace undermine the accuracy of Census Reports.

1. Inexpensive collectibles, which are not commonly submitted for certification, may appear scarce in census reports, but are in fact not scarce.
2. Certification services are predominantly utilized for collectibles of a higher value or for collectibles that have an appeal to collectors, and/or generally of a higher grade.
3. Certified collectibles are often removed from their holders without notice to the grading service, or can be lost or destroyed. Therefore, computer tallies utilized to publish grading population reports may be misleading.
4. Rarity is only one factor that must be weighed in determining the market value of a collectible.
