PMG Registry Featured Set: Cuba First Republic

This month, we present a set by a collector who is a major influencer in both the PMG and NGC collecting communities. With almost 45 PMG Registry sets and 90 NGC Registry sets comprised of many Top Pop examples, EMO Collection has been a prominent figure for years. He sets the bar high for anyone interested in competing, especially in Latin American numismatics, making it hard to pick only one high-ranking set to feature. This month, we offer this extensive set, almost seven years in the making and still growing: a Cuba First Republic, Including Varieties set, found here.

With 14 participating sets, this set is the most popular of all 23 Cuban PMG Registry set types. EMO Collection does not have the highest percentage of set completion here; instead, he focuses on obtaining the highest-grade examples of each note needed to fill the set. This requires diligent planning and patience. As such, he currently sits in first place at 45% completion.

What is perhaps most remarkable about this set is the uninterrupted run of notes over a 10-year period. EMO Collection has lovely examples of all varieties for notes issued from 1949-1960, and almost all are graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ! Be sure to check out this set and the other contenders attempting to reach the coveted #1 spot. It will be an exciting competition for the 2022 awards, for sure.
