Posted on 1/4/2024

The Thai rarity was among hundreds of NGC-certified coins and PMG-certified notes offered in a December 2023 sale.

More than 300 coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) and banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) were offered in a recent Eur-Seree auction highlighting rarities from Thailand. Several of the Thailand rarities sold for at least five figures in the Bangkok Sale #65, which was held December 2-3, 2023.

The top lot was a Thailand BE2526//1983 Gold 2,500 Baht - Year of Disabled Persons graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo (lot 3043) that realized THB 686,340 (about $19,900). The coin is one of the earliest gold Proof issues from Thailand, which also commemorates the International Year of Disabled Persons. The internationally recognized event is marked annually on December 3, and has evolved since the 1980s into the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The rarity also features the bust of King Rama IX, who ruled for 70 years from 1946 to 2016. His reign was the third-longest monarch in world history, behind only King Louis XIV and Queen Elizabeth II.
