NGC Special Designations and Labels for the 2024-W Proof Platinum American Eagle

Posted on 2/8/2024

The Right to Assemble coin is the fourth coin in the five-year First Amendment to the United States Constitution series. Special submission instructions must be followed. See the “Submission Instructions” section of this article.

On February 15, 2024, the US Mint will release the 2024-W Proof Platinum American Eagle, the fourth entry in the coin's First Amendment to the United States Constitution series, which runs through 2025. This year's platinum Proof coin continues to highlight the five freedoms preserved in the First Amendment: freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to assemble and freedom to petition.

Struck at the West Point Mint, the 2024 coin celebrates the Right to Assemble and has a limited mintage of only 12,000. Within the first 30 days of release, coins received by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are eligible for the popular Early Releases and First Releases designations. For cutoff dates, click here.

The Proof Platinum Eagle series began in 1997. Each year since, the coin has been released with a different design commemorating the United States. Previously, the Proof Platinum Eagle series included Vista of Liberty, Foundations of Democracy, Torches of Liberty and Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. In 2021, the US Mint debuted its current series starting with the Freedom of Religion coin, followed by the release of the Freedom of Speech coin in 2022 and the Freedom of the Press coin in 2023.

This year's Right to Assemble coin utilizes the lifecycle of an oak tree to represent America's growth as a nation that values freedom. The new obverse design features several different types of oak tree leaves among the inscription "WITH THE RIGHT TO ASSEMBLE LIBERTY SPREADS." The reverse contains a common design for the coin series, which depicts a flying eagle with an olive branch in its talons.

The obverse of every coin in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution series is designed by Artistic Infusion Program Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna. 2024-W Proof Platinum American Eagle coins with the NGC Donna Weaver Signature Label will be available through select retailers.

The reverse of every coin in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution series is designed by former US Mint Lead Sculptor Don Everhart, who is also an exclusive signer for NGC. Retiring in July 2017, Everhart has been involved in the creation of hundreds of coins, including some of the most memorable US Mint issues of the last two decades.
