The Canada-Commemorative category in the NGC Registry is the most popular of all the Canada categories, boasting over 3,000 participating sets. As such, we offer a No. 1-ranked One Dollar Commemorative Proof set by Max Leningrad, found here.

Sitting at 119 slots and covering over 40 years, this set type is a challenge for even the most devoted of collectors. Max began building his collection in 2019, and he has managed to win Best in Category ever since! Sitting atop another 115 participants, he diligently continues to load his set with striking NGC Top Pops, like the one below.

Furthermore, Max goes the extra mile and offers an interesting, anecdotal set description:

“This is the set that started it all. It's been over 10 years now that I decided to collect coins. Coin collecting came out as a resolution to quit smoking :) . Smoking was an expensive habit and I decided I'd rather spend the money on something else I would enjoy. That's how coin collecting started and it's proven to be waaay more expensive venture... I've picked the 2008 Canadian Dollar celebrating 100th as the coin for the set since in my opinion it has the nicest design so far of all the coins in this set.”

Also, with images for almost all 110 coins, this set should not be missed. For a pictorial walk through some of Canada’s most memorable events, be sure to check out the comprehensive gallery here.

Thank you, Max Leningrad, for sharing your extensive collection and for your continued dedication to the NGC Registry. We look forward to future updates in 2024!

Would you like your set to be featured in a future article? 100% completion in a set is not always feasible. Perhaps we will choose someone whose set has a personal story behind it or some interesting historical facts. We are looking for those sets where someone has taken the time to make the set unique and a reflection of his or her personal collecting style. It may be your set! Stay tuned.
