Hazing on the surface of modern coins is a common problem hiding the true potential of many of these relatively recent issues. The hazing can damage the surface permanently if left to fester and even light hazing will cause a coin to grade less. Luckily this haze can often be removed by professional conservation.

This Chinese 1993 silver 10 Yuan commemorating the birth of Mao Tse Tung was submitted to NCS to have the surface obscuring haze removed. With careful work, the haze was removed leaving the surfaces reflective and free of hairlines. This coin was then able to be graded by NGC at its best. This submitter was also able to take advantage of the Modern Tier special with NCS where a fee of $22.50 per coin includes both conservation and grading.
