Small corrosion spots are too frequent of an occurrence on early nickel coins. This 1878 proof 3 Cent Nickel is not immune from the effects of improper storage in the past and the development of small spots in the present. If left alone, the spots are not only unattractive but under the right environmental conditions can spread.
Conservators at NCS were up to the challenge and were able to safely reduce the appearance of small spots and take steps to prevent their development in the future. This coin was able to grade very well with NGC following the conservation work.
