Posted on 12/2/2005

The newest Hake's American & Collectibles Auction #186, closing December 13-15, once again has some great offerings in the CGC arena. Covering a wide expanse of genres, these books have come from pedigrees such as: Pennsylvania, Vancouver, San Francisco, Big Apple, Rockford, Mile High, Larson, Nova Scotia, Spokane, Denver, Crowley, Carson City, Twilight, and White Mountain.

The auction also has a wide variety of character memorabilia, political Americana, vintage autographs, coins, toys, and collectibles. Highlights include an original Peanuts Sunday strip by Charles Schulz dated June 21, 1962, just a sampling of some of the great books in this auction include: a fantastic example of Fantastic Four #48 CGC 9.8, featuring the first appearances of the Silver Surfer and Galactus; a shining copy of Green Lantern #1 CGC 9.0 condition, which is tied with three other copies for the highest grade examples of this book; and a copy of the classic Sub-Mariner Comics #1 CGC 7.5, as well as numerous premiums from vintage comic clubs, and more. And while not a comic book, but just as important entry in the history of comics, is one of two-known self-portrait caricatures of Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts. Accompanied by Snoopy, Schulz openly stated he was not a fan of doing self-portraits, thus making this a rare find indeed.
