The 1715CH Hungarian 10 Dukat, graded NGC MS 63, bears the image of Charles VI, who ruled much of Europe as Holy Roman Emperor from 1711 to 1740. The lands controlled or claimed by him are attested to in the letters along the edge of the obverse, including HUN for Hungary.

A Madonna and Christ child situated on a crescent appears in this lettering at the right; the rule of the Roman Catholic Charles VI was marked by conflict with the Ottoman Empire.

Other NGC-graded highlights from the auction include:

  • Lot 1504 – A 1705 English Gold Five Guineas, graded NGC AU 58, realized $216,000, far above its pre-auction estimate of $50,000. The very rare coin features a likeness of Queen Anne; the date on the coin indicates it was minted in the time immediately before the union of the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland to form Great Britain.
  • Lot 1240 – A 1778E Transylvania 3 Dukat, graded NGC MS 61, realized $168,000, above its a pre-auction estimate of $100,000. This coin, pedigreed to the Princeps Collection, features the likeness of Joseph II, the Holy Roman Emperor from 1764 to 1790.
