Heritage Auction Features Finest Continental Dollar, Certified by NGC

The pewter specimen, graded NGC MS 67, is among the rarities in the June sale.

Heritage Auctions is offering some amazing NGC-graded rarities in its Long Beach Expo US Coins Signature Auction, including the finest Continental Dollar known to exist. Made of pewter, it is graded NGC MS 67.

The Continental Dollars bear the date 1776, the year in which the Continental Congress declared independence for the 13 Colonies. The names of the colonies appear on a series of rings on the reverse, surrounding "AMERICAN CONGRESS" and "WE ARE ONE" at the center.

This particular specimen is a Newman 3-D variety, and its obverse includes the letters "EG FECIT" (meaning "E.G. made it") below the sundial. In a 2012 Heritage Auctions sale, it realized $546,250.
