CGC Hits 5 Million Collectibles Graded

DRUMROLL PLEASE ... Rocket Comics #1, graded CGC 9.0 (1940) has become the 5 millionth collectible certified by CGC! We want to say a big THANK YOU to all of our collectors and dealers — we could not have done it without you!

The 5 million collectible milestone encompasses comics from 1878 (Durham Whiffs v1 #1) to the most recent modern variants, and also the Action Comics #1 graded CGC 9.0 that sold for 3.2 million. We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve the vibrant community of comic collectors the last 18 years, and look forward to many more!

In celebration of this achievement, some of the CGC team members have shared their favorite books.

I'm a huge fan of all of the Planet Comics run, but of all the covers, I love #71 the most. This is the height of Golden Age science fiction and brings out a dynamism that you don't get in modern comics. All of the Solar, Man of the Atom covers, and most of the painterly Gold Key Covers are great, but the composition and color of Solar, Man of the Atom #10 always impresses me.

Even though I've had the pleasure of grading the best key issues in the world, I have to say my favorite was ironically a book we grade a lot: the 10,000th copy of Hulk #181, the first appearance of Wolverine. Even though I've seen the issue in every possible grade, the significance of that copy was not only a milestone for CGC, but it made me reflect on its immense popularity. It's truly one of the great milestones in comic books!

One book that stands out for me that came out in the 1980s. It is the holy grail for all Savage Dragon and Erik Larsen fans out there. The self-published comic book is Graphic Fantasy #1 by Ajax Comics Group. The comic consisted of several stories by various new artists. The Savage Dragon was known only as The Dragon in this premiere. To my knowledge, there were only a few hundred copies produced. All are signed and numbered by some of the artists who worked on the comic. If you are a Savage Dragon fan, this would be your Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27 or Amazing Fantasy #15. To date, CGC has only graded 10 copies of this book.
