NGC to Offer Coin Grading Contests at the FUN Show

Posted on 12/11/2018

Collectors and dealers can compete for great prizes at the Orlando convention.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) is excited to announce two coin grading contests — one for adults and one for Young Numismatists — at the 2019 Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Show in Orlando, Florida.

The two age groups are adult (age 18 and older) and Young Numismatist (age 13-17). Each participant will be given 10 minutes to grade 15 coins at the NGC booth (#104) without any outside assistance. The coins will be a mix of countries, types and grades, and may include Details-Graded and not genuine coins. Contestants will enter their grades on a computer provided by NGC.

Entries will be scored by NGC based on how close the contestant's grades were to NGC's grades. For the adult category, first prize is a $500 NGC grading credit, second prize is a $250 NGC grading credit and third prize is a $100 NGC grading credit. In addition, the top 10 adult finishers will receive a special NGC "Sample Slab" featuring a 2004 Proof Silver Florida Quarter and will also be awarded a free NGC Associate Membership for a year.

The YN category will have cash prizes of $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. The winners can use the money to buy reference books, add to their collection, help pay for an educational course or for anything else. In addition, the top ten YN finishers will also receive a special NGC "Sample Slab" featuring a 2004 Proof Silver Florida Quarter.

To request a reservation for a time slot in the contest, email your name, age (as of the FUN Show) and day(s) you will be at the FUN Show to: contest@ngccoin.com with a subject line of FUN Grading Contest. You must be willing to have your name published by NGC if you win.

A maximum of 120 contestants can take part in the adult and YN contests combined. NGC reserves the right to limit the number further depending on the time constraints, but hopes to accommodate at least 100 contestants. Time slots will be available January 10-12. Any potential contestant who does not show up at the start of their time slot may forfeit their time slot. If a time slot is open during the show, it will be made available to walk-up contestants on a first-come, first-served basis.

NGC will notify the winners by the end of the FUN show on January 13 and will post an article on NGCcoin.com a short time later. In the event of a tie, the prize amounts will be split evenly between the winners. (For instance, if two adults tie for first place, each will receive $375 in grading credit and no second place prize will be awarded.)

Certified Collectibles Group employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate. NGC reserves the right of final interpretation of this promotion, including the right to disqualify any contestant.
