NGC-graded Japanese Coins Realize Impressive Sums at Auction

Two NCG-certified gold coins from the late 19th century each realized over $150,000 USD in the sale.

Coins graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) were the top sellers at an auction held April 28 by prominent Japanese firm Taisei Coins during the Tokyo International Coin Convention (TICC).

This Japan 1877 10 Yen graded NGC PF 64★ Cameo realized ¥24 million ($215,760 USD)

Among those realizing the highest amounts were two 19th Century Japanese gold coins. The top lot, which realized ¥24 million ($215,760 USD), was an 1877 10 Yen graded NGC PF 64★ Cameo. Realizing ¥17 million ($152,830 USD) was another Japanese gold coin from 1877, a 2 Yen rarity graded NGC PF 66 Cameo.
