A marvelous collection of Dollars and other type coins assembled by Robert Tarr, Sr., will be anchoring Heritage's FUN 2003 Signature Sale, taking place Jan. 8-11 in Orlando. Some 45 years in the making, this impressive assemblage reflects the consignor's dedication to numismatics as "an educational hobby of history." As Mr. Tarr explained: "I started collecting as a young man, when completing a set of Lincoln cents was the least expensive way to start collecting coins." He enjoyed searching through bags of cents to fill album holes, and soon discovered that "as each hole got filled, there was that much more incentive to finish the collection while researching the coins and mints." He graduated to searching bags of silver dollars, often going through several bags each week looking for quality coins and rare dates. Silver Dollars remain his all-time favorite coin (especially prooflike strikings). When he "began to buy more expensive coins, many were purchased from Steve Ivy and Jim Halperin, when they were still young men." Some duplicates from Mr. Tarr's collection were sold at Heritage's Santa Clara Signature event.
