What makes it special? This book features the origin and first appearance of Rick Grimes, Shane Walsh, Morgan and Duane Jones. Rick Grimes is a former sheriff's deputy who fell into a coma after being shot in the line of duty. When he finally wakes, he finds himself in the midst of an apocalypse.

Why is it interesting now? The Walking Dead #193 was released this July as the final book in the comic series.

Did you know? Robert Kirkman, co-creator of The Walking Dead, wasn’t allowed to watch horror films in his youth. He became fixated with George Romero films as he grew older, which peaked his interest in zombies.
