PMG-graded Notes Highlight August Heritage Sale in Chicago

A very rare PMG-certified 1928 $5,000 Federal Reserve Note from Atlanta is expected to sell for six figures during Heritage Auctions' World's Fair of Money Currency Auction in Chicago on August 15.

The note is graded PMG 30 Very Fine EPQ and is the only one of the six Atlanta examples in the PMG Population Report to have the EPQ designation. It has an estimate of $170,000 to $200,000.

The PMG Population Report includes less than 20 examples across all districts for these 1928 notes. The only other year for $5,000 Small Size Federal Reserve Notes is 1934.

In fact, a 1934 $5,000 Federal Reserve Note from Chicago is being offered in this same auction. Graded PMG 45 Choice Extremely Fine, it has an estimate of $80,000 to $100,000.

Another amazing note is a 1934 $1,000 Federal Reserve Note from San Francisco, graded PMG 25 Very Fine. It is believed to be the only known Serial Number 1 for $1,000 Small Size Federal Reserve Notes in private hands. Its estimate is $100,000 to $125,000.
