Trio of NGC-certified Italian Rarities Impress at Aste Bolaffi Sale

The gold coins each realized €51,240 in the July 2020 auction.

Three Italian gold rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) each realized €51,240 (about $57,900 USD) in an auction held in Turin on July 9-10, 2020. The sale was organized by Aste Bolaffi, a valued Italian auction house.

The coins included an Italy 1880R 100 Lire graded NGC MS 60 featuring the bust of Umberto I, who ascended to the throne in 1878 and ruled until he was assassinated in 1900.

Meanwhile, two coins issued by Victor Emmanuel III (Umberto I's son and successor, who ruled until 1946) also each realized €51,240 (about $57,900 USD). They were an Italy 1912R 20 Lire Prova graded NGC MS 66+ and an Italy 1902R 20 Lire graded NGC MS 63.

"We are very satisfied with the results and confident about the future," said Gabriele Tonello, Head of the Numismatic Department at Aste Bolaffi. "For the first time, we had a considerable number of NGC-graded coins. We saw an increase in the number of customers, and the final results were beyond expectations."
