NGC-Certified World Coins Excel in Poland

Over 200 ancient and world coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) were sold in Antykwariat Numizmatyczny Michal Niemczyk’s Premium Auction 26 sale on October 17, 2020 in Poland. Many realized prices well beyond their starting prices.

One of the top lots was a Poland 1611 5 Ducats graded NGC MS 62 that realized 270,000 PLN (about $70,000 USD), significantly more than its starting price of 170,000 PLN (about $44,000 USD). These coins are particularly sought-after for their bold design featuring the bust of Sigismund III Vasa, King of Poland from 1587 to 1632. This impeccable example has retained its striking detail and precise lines.

A Poland 1925 Gold 20 Zlotych graded NGC MS 66 realized 265,000 PLN (about $68,000 USD), over double its starting price of 100,000 PLN (about $26,000 USD). It is the finest-graded of the five “Polonia” coins minted in gold.

A rare Poland 1630 II Ducat graded NGC MS 61 went well beyond its starting price of 80,000 PLN ($21,000 USD), realizing 190,000 PLN (about $49,000 USD). This 17th century coin is pedigreed to the H. Karolkiewicz Collection, the most comprehensive collection of Polish coins in the world.

Other NGC-certified highlights include:

• a Kingdom of Poland 1832 25 Zlotych graded NGC MS 60 that realized 90,000 PLN (about $23,000 USD)
• a Bohemia 1627 Friedland Taler graded NGC Uncirculated Details that realized 92,000 PLN (about $24,000 USD)
• a Poland 1660 TLB Krakau 2 Ducats graded NGC Uncirculated Details that realized 67,000 PLN (about $17,000 USD)
• a Poland 1925 Proba Silver 100 Zlotych graded NGC PF 63 that realized 60,000 PLN (about $15,000 USD)
• a Poland 1932 Winged Victory 5 Zlotych graded NGC AU 53 that realized 42,000 PLN (about $11,000 USD)
• a Germany 1749 FWoF Saxony Ducat graded NGC MS 62 that realized 29,000 PLN (about $7,000 USD)
