PMG-Certified Banknotes and NGC-Certified Coins Highlight Singapore Sale

Posted on 11/6/2020

An NGC-certified US coin and a set of PMG-certified Singapore banknotes are among the highest estimates in the sale.

World banknotes graded by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and world coins graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are featured in Mavin International’s upcoming Auction 55 sale in Singapore. Online bidding is now open and ends on November 21, 2020.

A set of 10 Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency ND (1999) 100 Dollars graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ has an estimate of SGD 30,000 to SGD 32,000 (about $22,000 to $23,400 USD). They feature nine solid serial numbers from 111111 to 999999, as well as the 1 million serial number. They show Yusof bin Ishak, the first President of Singapore, who served from 1965 to 1970.

A rare US 1879 $3 graded NGC PF 63 Cameo is the most anticipated coin in the sale, with an estimate of SGD 28,000 to SGD 29,000 (about $24,500 to $21,200 USD). Although the Philadelphia Mint released roughly 82,000 $3 gold pieces in 1878, there are only about 3,000 of the 1879 issue. The sharp drop in mintage is evidenced by the NGC Census, which has a recorded 5,000 certified 1878 examples and only 400 of the 1879.
