NGC-Certified World and Ancient Coins Excel in Monaco Sale

Two NGC-certified gold Italian coins were among the top pieces in the October sale.

Over 300 world and ancient coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) were sold in the Editions V. Gadoury auction that was held from October 30-31, 2020.

One of the most successful pieces was a stunning NGC-certified Italy 1821 80 Lire graded NGC MS 61 that realized € 72,000 (about $85,500 USD). The 19th century gold coin features Victor Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy and King of Sardinia from 1802 to 1821. The NGC Census records only one finer example.

An exceptionally rare Italy 1757 Sardinia 5 Doppie graded NGC AU 58 also realized € 72,000 (about 85,500 USD). The 18th century gold coin features Charles Emmanuel III, King of Sardinia and Duke of Savoy from 1730 until his death in 1773. It is one of 2,376 minted between 1755 and 1768 and the finest-known example from the 1757 issue.
