CGC Celebrates Hitting 7 Million Collectibles Graded!

Posted on 12/1/2020

In 2020 alone, CGC has graded more than 1 million comic books, trading cards, magazines and concert posters.

Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is excited to share that it has certified more than 7 million collectibles! 7 million! Those collectibles were primarily comic books but also magazines, concert posters, trading cards and more. It’s also worth mentioning that CGC has graded over 1 million collectibles in the past year alone.

CGC’s continued growth is largely due to the trust and accuracy provided by 20 years of superior grading services, which has, in turn, led to higher realized resale prices for collectibles certified by CGC. In fact, the all-time record for a comic book sold at auction is an Action Comics #1 graded CGC 9.0 that sold in 2014 for $3.2 million. Just in November, we saw a copy of Detective Comics #27 graded CGC 7.0 realize an impressive $1.5 million in a Heritage Auctions sale. These are a mere sampling of what auction houses are seeing from CGC graded collectibles.

The year 2020 was difficult for many and traversing through a pandemic — void of all comic cons — left us unsure and scrambling on what tomorrow would bring. Thankfully, CGC’s Signature Series team was able to pivot to provide those beloved private signing experiences to artists, fans and collectors alike.

“I have truly missed seeing all of our comic con friends,” shared Brittany McManus, Signature Series Director. “But really, it has been such a humbling and gratifying experience to have the opportunity to bring so many artists to us for private signings and to hear their stories and be able to share them with everyone! The cons may have been taken from us this year, but these new private signings have brought us even closer together — and we thank all of the fans and artists for making this possible.”
