NGC-certified English Gold Coins in the Spotlight at January Auction

Posted on 12/23/2020

A 1642 Triple Unite and other NGC-graded rarities are expected to generate spirited bidding in The New York Sale.

English coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) highlight The New York Sale, a collaboration of Ira & Larry Goldberg Auctioneers; Dmitry Markov Coins & Medals; M&M Numismatics Ltd. and Sovereign Rarities Ltd. Online bidding is now underway for the auction, which ends on January 14, 2021.

Among the most anticipated coins in the sale is an England 1642 Charles I Gold Triple Unite graded NGC AU 58, with an estimated sales price of $100,000. The Gold Triple Unites were produced by the Oxford Mint during the English Civil War, when King Charles I moved his capital from London to Oxford.

Struck from 1642 to 1644, it is the largest gold denomination ever produced in English coinage. All are rare. According to the NGC Census, NGC has graded just 14 of the 1642-dated examples, with only two receiving a higher grade.
