NGC-certified Coins and PMG-certified Notes Featured in June Sale

A large selection of NGC-graded coins and PMG-graded paper money from Greece are offered in an A. Karamitsos auction.

A. Karamitsos, an auction firm specializing in numismatic and philatelic rarities from Greece and the surrounding region, presents Auction 984 in two parts. Part A and Part B feature a variety of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) and banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®). Currently, online bidding for the sale is underway and will conclude June 12-13, 2021.

The top coin in the sale is a Greece 1840 5 Lepta graded NGC MS 62 BN (part A, lot 06055). This coin was struck during the reign of the first King of Greece, Otto I. Crowned in 1832, the Bavarian prince was exiled in 1862 after a coup. The starting price for this coin, which is unsurpassed in the NGC Census, is € 9,000 (about $11,000 USD).

  • a Greece 1833 5 Drachmas graded NGC AU 58 (part A, lot 06047) with a starting price of € 700 (about $850 USD)
  • a France 2019 Silver 50 Euro 50th Anniversary of First Step on Moon graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (part B, lot 06883) with a starting price of € 650 (about $790 USD)
  • a Greece 1876A 20 Drachmas graded NGC AU 58 (part A, 06083) with a starting price of € 650 (about $790 USD)

A variety of vintage Mediterranean notes certified by PMG make an appearance in the sale including a Greece, Bank of Greece ND (1946) 20,000 Drachmai graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated NET (part A, lot 06562). Featuring the image of the Greek goddess Athena and a watermark of the god Apollo, this banknote has a starting price of € 2,800 (about $3,400 USD).
